In Hiding, 2020.
The physical act of repetitive mark-making in linocut prints and graphite drawings is a meditation to me. My personal experience of surviving COVID-19 in 2020, resulted in PTSD of the outside world. When I feel it is not safe to venture outside, I create safe places through my art. Through my body of work, In Hiding, I aim to create a connection with the audience, one to replace the personal connection I lost. I use surreal elements in my work, often bringing creatures from the outside in as they are a metaphor to reflect myself hiding in isolation. The intricate drawings and detailed carving of flora and fauna creates these magical spaces which bring peacefulness in a time of chaos.
